Christopher Brooks Composition Prize 2016

I'm delighted to have been awarded the Christopher Brooks Composition Prize by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.

As part of the prize, I'll write a new piece for Ensemble 10/10, the RLPS' contemporary music ensemble made up of musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, which will be premiered in Autumn 2017. Throughout the year, I will have access to a bespoke programme of workshops, masterclasses and mentoring sessions from composers, performers, conductors and other industry professionals associated with the RLPS. The prize includes a year-long membership of BASCA and an award of £1,000 which I am putting towards tuition fees for my Masters in Composition degree at the Royal College of Music..

I am incredibly excited to begin this residency with the RLPS. The orchestra played a pivotal role in the formative years of my musical education and, in the two years before I moved to London to study at the Royal College of Music, I was privileged to sing with its fantastic choir. I am delighted that I can now give something back to an organisation that has given me so much in the form of this new piece.

I am also grateful to Help Musicians UK for their grant of £1,088 towards this project, which will help fund my travel costs between Liverpool and London whilst I continue to study towards my Masters in Composition degree at the Royal College of Music.
